Gabriel Lázaro-Muñoz, Postdoctoral Researcher Center for Genomics and Society at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill School of Medicine (and soon Asst. Prof. at the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine), presents:
“RETURN OF RESULTS IN PSYCHIATRIC GENOMICS RESEARCH: CHALLENGES AND POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS”
Lunch workshop, Thurs. Feb. 16, 2017, Cone 111, 12:30-2:00

Abstract: The increasing prevalence of genomic analysis (genome/exome sequencing and array-based measures) in psychiatric research generates complex novel challenges for investigators. A critical one is how to manage the clinically relevant information that these technologies can generate, such as pharmacogenetics findings, and risk for cancer, heart disease, or psychiatric disorders. I will discuss ethical, legal, and practical considerations about what kind of genomic testing results, if any, researchers should return to psychiatric genomics research participants and why.
Gabriel appears as part of our series on “Precision Medicine” – for a listing of events, see the series flyer here.
